KREMSMÜNSTER, Austria , April 8, 2010 (press release) – The E in K3-E stands for evolution and efficiency. Design and environmental profit. Recycling costs for manufacturers and fillers alike are cut. Reduced CO2 foot print.

The successful K3 packaging technology of Greiner Packaging has been enlarged to include a new facet: K3-E unites the classical plus factors of plastic-cardboard combinations with new, unique advantages. Tobias Strasser, Head of Division K at Greiner Packaging, explains: “K3-E opens new dimensions in terms of sustainability, ecological awareness and possibilities of visual design.“

K3-E is the plastic-cardboard combination for cups and tubs which has been  developed by Greiner Packaging. It convinces through decoration and communication. Recycled cardboard or cardboard made from virgin fibres is used for the manufacture of the cardboard sleeve. Strasser is convinced: “This packaging solution – in combination with our technology – is the perfect answer to the current mega trends in consumption: Individuality and ecological awareness.“

Sustainable and environmentally-friendly

The fibre-based raw material for K3-E packaging is mostly made of renewable raw materials. In comparison with other packaging materials it achieves a significantly higher CO2 balance. K3-E packaging protects the environment, thus diminishing the recycling costs for manufacturers and fillers alike. For consumers, there is also a huge advantage with regard to recycling: Plastics and cardboard can be easily separated with an ergonomically and functionally designed tear-off strip. Due to its extremely low weight, the new packaging solution increases energy efficiency.

In the best possible shape

K3-E packaging fulfils the highest demands for modern packaging communication and is ideally suited for premium products. With K3-E packaging it is possible to print the cardboard sleeve on both sides and all over its surface from the sealing rim to the bottom. The all-over cardboard sleeve offers space for high-quality printing including embossing and the use of spot colours. The stacking edge is on the inside, which shows the shape of K3-E packaging to its full advantage.

Efficiency in many ways

Strasser underscores another important plus for customers of Greiner Packaging: “Our new development allows for a reduced proportion of plastics.“ In addition, cup stability, constant bearing pressure and machinability have been further increased in comparison with the classical K3 packaging.
