Blister pack with numbered design helps with medication adherence

For effective treatment of an illness or condition, prescription medication must be taken as prescribed by a health care professional. Forgetting to take a dose, or taking too much, can be harmful to the patient or even life-threatening. Moreover, patients who are older or forgetful are especially vulnerable to poor medication adherence. The Life Care Pill Packaging Reminder by Zhongpeng Zheng aims to help patients correctly follow their medication regimen through a simple numbered design. Made of aluminum foil and rigid PVC film, the blister pack features a top card that serves as a visual reminder. Columns of numbers are printed from 1 to 7, indicating days of the week, while holes in the card correspond with correct dosage. For example, when a medication needs to be taken three times on Tuesday, one pill at a time, there will be three holes in the number 2 for the patient to check. Through this mark, patients can know how many times they’ve taken the medicine already and how many doses remain for the day. The packaging was a winner in the Idea Design Category of the 2021-2022 A’Design Awards.

Secondary packaging for luxury whiskey opens via touch sensor system

To enjoy the ultra-rare, limited release of Aodh Irish Whiskey is to enjoy a fully immersive experience, thanks to the innovative design of the bottle’s outer container. Featuring gold, precious stones and glass, the design consists of an exoskeleton vessel based on a winged chassis that locks the bottle in place. With a simple touch on the vessel’s base, the exo-skeleton opens to reveal the bottle and illuminates with the help of several halo LED profiles and mirrored surfaces, all coming together in a fluid graceful series of movements. The obsidian closure also contains a hidden compartment inside, where the user can store a small gift or piece of jewelry, giving a more personal and intimate touch to the entire experience. Derived from the Old Irish word for fire, Aodh is the legendary god of the underworld and eldest son of Lir, also holding a place in Irish mythology as a captivating seducer. With the whiskey's rarity adding its own mythological character, The Aodh draws on these legends to tell its story. Just like its namesake, The Aodh demands attention and adulation. Created by Tiago Russo, the packaging won a 2022 bronze A’Design award.

Upside down beer label encourages interactive experience

Azubi Süd is a prototype beer that’s unfiltered during the brewing process, meaning when you drink it, you have to slowly turn it over to mix in the yeast that has accumulated at the bottom of the bottle. To encourage this action, the logo on the main label is placed upside down. On the neck label, however, Azubi Süd is placed so that it reads in the correct orientation, emphasizing the main label’s placement and action to turn the beer over. Created by a Japanese brewer who’s training to brew beer in Cologne, Germany, the beer’s German-language name aptly translates to “trainee.” Because the beer is experimental, it’s hard to know what it tastes like until you drink it. For that reason, the label design connects the “u” and “ü” in the Azubi Süd logo to create a symbolic “Unknown” ghost.
