WASHINGTON Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) voted today for a package of appropriations bills, also known as a minibus, to fund part of the government through the end of Fiscal Year 2024. The package includes more than $25.5 million for community projects Golden supported in the 2nd Congressional District .

Final enactment of the package would meet the first of two funding deadlines, with the next deadline set for March 22 . Under the terms of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, if all the FY24 spending bills are not enacted by April 30 , the budget would revert to the previous year’s funding levels — but with tens of billions of dollars in cuts across the board.

“In addition to keeping the federal government on track, this spending deal would fund clean water projects, bridge repairs, and other crucial infrastructure projects across the 2nd Congressional District ,” Golden said. “But the work is not over. House Republicans need to keep up the pace and pass the rest of the appropriations bills. That’s the only way to ensure Congress meets its basic responsibility — passing a budget — and that Maine communities will receive the crucial project funding they deserve.”

Every request Golden made for Community Project Funding was included in the legislation passed today. Those projects include:

  • $963,000 for the Northern Maine Law Enforcement Equipment Modernization Project ;
  • $963,000 for the Belfast Police Department for equipment upgrades;
  • $1,500,000 for the Rumford-Mexico Sewerage District for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements;
  • $731,000 for the Stonington Water Company for Drinking Water Infrastructure Improvements;
  • $1,760,000 for the Town of Castine for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements;
  • $7,000,000 for the Town of Livermore Falls for Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrades;
  • $1,000,000 for the Town of Lubec for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements;
  • $1,500,000 for the Winterport Water District for Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades;
  • $1,105,000 for the Lewiston Beech Street Economic Development Infrastructure Project ;
  • $1,000,000 for the Burrough Road Bridge Replacement in Lisbon ;
  • $777,000 for Operation Reboot’s Dream Bigger Campaign to create an ADA compliant outdoor healing facility;
  • $3,972,000 for Augusta’s Front Street Resiliency Improvements;
  • $861,279 for the Kotuwaposu Pleasant Point New Youth and Recreational Facility;
  • $1,941,000 for the Margaret Chase Smith Community School and Early Childhood Center in Skowhegan ; and
  • $500,000 for the NMCC Andrews Hall Renovation in Presque Isle ;

The package includes several other priorities Golden has championed in the past, including:

  • Requiring the FDA to include paper inserts of important medical information alongside prescription drugs, which are mass produced at the Twin Rivers paper mill in Madawaska ;
  • $134.8 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs , including critical funding for veterans medical care, such as $17.1 billion to treat veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other hazardous chemicals;
  • Blocking any new restrictions to reproductive freedoms, such as expanded access to abortion services through the VA ;
  • Reversing a $1.2 billion cut to the Crime Victims Fund , which provides necessary assistance to victims of child and elder abuse, domestic and sexual violence, exploitation, and more;
  • Funding for Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Plan (SIOP), which would allocate $2.4 billion in investments at the Navy’s four public shipyards, including Portsmouth Naval Shipyard , in order to meet nuclear fleet maintenance requirements and improve Navy maintenance capabilities; and
  • Roughly $7 billion for rental assistance, homelessness assistance and affordable housing in the Housing and Urban Development budget.

The minibus now moves to the Senate for a vote, where it is expected to pass and be signed into law by President Biden .
