ISSA releases 2022-2023 End Period Poverty Campaign Impact Report, detailing how its campaign has influenced legislation addressing period poverty; Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio are new states in 2023 requiring period products in schools

Today, ISSA proudly released the 2022-2023 End Period Poverty Campaign Impact Report.

ISSA believes that menstrual-care solutions should be as available in away-from-home bathrooms as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels. Accordingly, in October 2022, the association launched its c in partnership with the ISSA Hygieia Network, an ISSA Charities™ signature program dedicated to the advancement and retention of women in the cleaning industry

“ISSA has taken our message of period positivity to facilities, state capitols, and even the White House. The association is proud to look back at our successes over the last year as we build on that momentum going into 2024 and beyond. We are working to advocate for a world where period-friendly bathrooms are the rule rather than the exception,” said ISSA Director of Government Affairs John Nothdurft.

Since launching the campaign, ISSA has effectively advocated, influenced, and made an impact, resulting in:

• States requiring period products in schools – 19 states
  Added in 2023: Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, and Ohio
• States allocating dedicated funds to put period products in schools – Six states
  Added in 2023: Arizona
• States with no “tampon tax” – 29 states
  Added in 2023: Texas
• Federal introduction of the Menstrual Equity for All Act of 2023 and Period PROUD Act of 2023
• Other highlights – Creating and promoting a Best Practices for Menstrual Care in Public Restrooms document and End Period Poverty infographic, creating an online End Period Poverty Action Center and Legislative Tracker, as well as educating and engaging more than 20 trade associations and medical societies.
