PYSOLO – Making use of concentrated solar power for biomass pyrolysis: new paths for a climate-neutral Europe

In the Horizon Europe project PYSOLO, nine partners from four countries work on a solution for both decarbonisation and defossilisation the EU chemical industry by preparing the ground for an innovative, fully renewable process combining concentrated solar power (CSP) and biomass pyrolysis. In this project, both the CSP and the pyrolysis technologies will be refined for maximal efficiency and sustainability. This will be achieved and monitored by life cycle assessment and modelling of the processes during the technological development. Thanks to the use of solar heat in the pyrolysis process, the production of valuable products, i.e. bio-oil, biochar and pyrogas, can be maximised while minimising the associated CO₂ emissions. This offers both economic and environmental benefits compared to conventional pyrolysis.

The nova-Institute, as leader of the communication and dissemination work package of PYSOLO, has recently set up a dedicated website for the project. All information about the objectives, the project partners, news and downloadable material can now be found there and will be continuously updated with results, upcoming events and success stories.
