In the opinion of the German paper industry, the state must cancel the gas surcharge planned for autumn and bear the costs in full.

Gas has been promoted as a bridging technology for years. Private consumers and the energy-intensive industry have followed suit and are already bearing the enormous burden of the exorbitant rise in gas prices. They have multiplied to over €150/MWh as a result of Russian gas deliveries, which have been noticeably throttled since the beginning of last year.

It is correct and understandable that the state saved the gas importer Uniper from bankruptcy. However, he should not pass on the costs for this to consumers and industry. "Anyone who demands solidarity must also provide it themselves," explained the association DIE PAPIERINDUSTRIE.

The paper industry sees its production endangered by the increasing costs as well as by an impending gas shortage. In the worst case, important value chains can no longer be supplied with paper. For example in food and pharmaceutical packaging, in hospital and care hygiene or in print media.
