Fraunhofer researchers are highlighting the scientific and technological potential of the bioeconomy in their roadmap “Circular bioeconomy for Germany”. Included are recommended actions to be taken at a political level. The roadmap was presented in Brussels on September 20, 2023. The Fraunhofer WKI contributed to the roadmap. © Thomas Kuhlenbeck An interdisciplinary team of Fraunhofer researchers analyzed the state of the art, opportunities and challenges in various fields of application of the bioeconomy and derived recommendations for policy action. The resulting roadmap was presented and put up for discussion at the expert workshop “Sustainable and Competitive: the Bioeconomic Future of the EU”. The roadmap and further information can be found here: Roadmap “Circular bioeconomy for Germany” Sustainability through the utilization of renewable raw materials has formed the focus at the Fraunhofer WKI for 75 years. The institute, with locations in Braunschweig, Hanover, and Wolfsburg, specializes in process engineering, natural-fiber composites, binders and coatings, wood and emission protection, quality assurance of wood products, material and product testing, recycling procedures and the utilization of organic building materials and wood in construction. Virtually all the procedures and materials resulting from the research activities are applied industrially. Last modified: The background of the Fraunhofer WKI
