ECMA and Pro Carton released the Position Paper titled: The need for clear definitions for paper & board based single-use products. Over recent years, we have seen an increase in potentially false plastic free claims being made for items which fall within the scope of the Single Use Plastics Directive; this hinders innovation and creates an unfair competitive landscape. The confusion that is created, is leading to an increasing use of alternate standards to demonstrate a plastic free product. In this Position Paper, ECMA and Pro Carton are calling for clear, harmonised, fact and impact-based definitions and notes that low amounts of plastic have no impact on the recycling process”.
