Texas A&M Forest Service appoints Al Davis as its ninth director; Davis has served as interim director since June 1, 2021, focusing on people and leadership development

COLLEGE STATION, Texas , June 15, 2023 (press release) –

Al Davis has been appointed director of Texas A&M Forest Service by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents in a special telephonic meeting on June 14.

“I am grateful to Chancellor Sharp, Vice Chancellor Savell and the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents for entrusting me to lead the great state agency, Texas A&M Forest Service,” said Davis.

Davis has served as interim director of Texas A&M Forest Service since June 1, 2021. Prior to serving as interim director, Davis was the Deputy Agency Director & Chief of Staff of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service.

In his two years as interim director, Davis has made a great impact on the people and mission of Texas A&M Forest Service. Since his first day, his top priorities were safety, employee retention, relationships and telling the agency story.

His vision is “a great agency that is people and mission focused.”

Davis has taken many actions toward his top priorities by focusing on people and leadership development over the past two years. He has increased salary ranges for agency employees, initiated a tuition assistance program and spear-headed competency-based education partnerships.

As a 27-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as rank of colonel, Davis is passionate about driving the mission of the agency forward.

“I am very excited and humbled to work with the 540 selfless men and women of Texas A&M Forest Service as they continue to make a big difference for the Great State of Texas and its citizens,” said Davis.
