Companies rely on their combined assets to get the job done. They include things like equipment, buildings, land, and money. But there is one asset more valuable and important than any other for success—people.

Mosaic Forest Management is dedicated to creating a workplace where every one of our 150 employees and more than 2,000 contractors can feel they belong and know they can contribute their whole, authentic selves. This approach has been critical in Mosaic’s delivery of its strategic goals on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I).

Mosaic has three clear goals key to making progress on DE&I:

  • Foster a safe and welcoming work environment

  • Integrate, measure, and hold to account

  • Be a community champion

The company applied an intense focus to DE&I throughout 2022. All programs and policies were reviewed through a lens of DE&I—and needed changes were made. Other actions to advance our efforts included:

  • Delivering Respectful Workplace Leadership training

  • Launching a Respectful Workplace Policy

  • Providing Safe Space Guidelines

  • Implementing a Parental Leave Top Up program

Mosaic has established a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, co-chaired by the company’s Vice President, People & Administration and Senior Manager, Forestry Operations, who provide oversight and guidance to relevant programming and initiatives and demonstrate leadership in action.

“It’s important to champion DE&I so that you’re being the change you want to see. It takes courage, but unless we’re willing to step out, then others won’t either.”

Louise Bender, VP, People & Administration & Mosaic’s DE&I Committee Co-Chair

Mosaic has also made strides outside the company. Team members are part of the sector-wide Forestry Industry DE&I Working Group, and the company recently took part in the BC Senior Leaders DE&I Roundtable on Indigenous Partnerships and Engagement. Mosaic is an Employer Partner with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion.

To hold ourselves accountable, we will measure our progress through three metrics: increased representation of under-represented groups, positive experiences of inclusion and engagement, and external recognition of our work in this important area.

Mosaic will continue to share its DE&I-related commitments and accomplishments, knowing our actions can help build a better-shared future.

Those interested in learning more are encouraged to follow Mosaic on its social channels.

“DE&I is a recognition of the uniqueness of individuals, helping us diversify our approaches, which ultimately leads to a stronger, more unified team.”

Jimmie Hodgson, Senior Manager, Forestry Operations & Mosaic’s DE&I Committee Co-Chair
