Companies survive and thrive on the strength of their team—the people who make up their workforce, contributing day after day to get the job done.

Mosaic Forest Management knows the value of its 220 team members, more than 2,000 contractors, and what they each bring to the company. Because of our people, Mosaic is committed to everyone feeling they belong, guided by our strategic goals on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I).

The company’s goals to advance DE&I are:

  • Foster a safe and welcoming work environment

  • Integrate, measure, and hold to account

  • Be a community champion

For Area Forester Chesley Toth, the way to uphold DE&I is clear.

“Championing DE&I is about promoting inclusive policies and practices that challenge gender stereotypes, work-life balance, and foster environments that embrace and celebrate diversity,” Chelsey said.

That’s something the entire company works to deliver, rooted in Mosaic’s DE&I Vision. Beyond these organization-wide commitments, Mosaic is also involved in the Forest Sector EDI Alliance and is an Employer Partner with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion.

But it’s more than broad company actions that make a difference and build an inclusive culture. Team members themselves can play a role. They can learn about and understand the challenges underrepresented groups face in the workplace and the sector and take action to support those people. Individuals can build the culture by challenging discriminatory or biased practices they encounter.

DE&I is about creating an environment where everybody feels valued, respected, and included while recognizing and celebrating all individuals’ unique perspectives and lived experiences. For Marko Gasic, Vice President of Information Technology and Planning, the approach makes sense for retaining the people we have and bringing new team members on board.

“We need to attract diverse talent, diverse backgrounds, which ultimately leads to a more innovative and productive workforce,” Marko said.
