SANTA CATARINA, Brazil , July 26, 2022 (press release) –

The publication highlights the unprecedented achievement in Brazil of three simultaneous certifications of FSC ecosystem services by® the Company

Klabin's Public Summary 2022 of Klabin's Forest Management Plan in Santa Catarina is available for consultation. The document brings together social and sustainability policies, which are technical and economic indicators of the Company's forestry operation, and the actions carried out with local communities, and can be accessed in full on Klabin's website.

The Public Summary 2022 reports the achievement of FSC Certifications® by Klabin, in November 2021, in Ecosystem Services for Biodiversity Conservation, Sequestration and Carbon Storage and Services in Hydrographic Basins, at Fazenda das Nascentes, located in the Private Reserve of State Natural Heritage (RPPN) Serra da Farofa Complex. With this recognition, the Company became the first company in the country to win the three stamps simultaneously. The fsc triple seal of ecosystem® services is aligned with the Klabin Sustainable Development Goals (KODS) and reinforces the company's commitment to adopting the best socio-environmental and economic practices in its forest plantations.

Among the indicators presented in the abstract are the results of the activities developed by the monitoring teams of fauna and flora, which identified 880 native plants in the forests maintained by Klabin in the state, and 90 are considered endangered. The wildlife survey mapped 528 species, with 49 of them also included in the official lists under threat. As examples in biodiversity mapping, can be cited the identification of rare and endemic species, such as the amphibian: glass perereca, popular name of Vitreorana uranoscopa, found in Farrapos Farm, located in the municipality of Urubici, belonging to the Serra da Farofa Complex State RPPN.

The good incidence rates of wildlife in forests maintained by Klabin may be associated with the adoption of the mosaic-shaped planting technique, in which the Company is a pioneer in Brazil, which mixes planted forests with native forests, forming ecological corridors that enable the coexistence and flow of native fauna and flora in its natural habitat, contributing to the protection of soil and biodiversity.

Relationship with the community

The Public Summary 2022 also includes the list of socio-environmental actions and projects developed with the community, such as the Klabin Caiubi Program, created with the objective of disseminating concepts of ecological awareness among teachers and students in schools on the mountain plateau. The 34th edition of the action, held in 2021, was developed online with the municipalities of Lages, Otacílio Costa, Monte Carlo and Petrolândia. By the end of 2022, other cities in the Company's area of operation will be covered by the program. To date, Caiubi has reached 652 schools, 1,656 teachers and 223,640 students in the stages held in the state of Santa Catarina.

In addition, the document explains the operation of 11 more engagement programs that Klabin maintains with the community, such as the Araucaria Trail, Environmental Protectors and the Forest Certification Program for Beekeepers, which in August 2021 received imaflora certification. The certifiator identifies organizations and producers that work with raw materials of forest origin, manipulated in a sustainable way, with the conservation of natural forests.
