Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of paper for paper packaging, has published its 2022 Public Summary of the Management Plan of its Paraná Forestry Unit, reporting the consolidated results for 2021. The unit manages a forest area spanning more than 447 thousand hectares, which include more than 182,000 hectares of native vegetation earmarked for conservation. The document summarizes Klabin’s efforts in forestry management, as well as its social and sustainability policies, through technical, economic and environmental indicators of its forestry operations, which highlight the importance of proper management for conserving the biomes in the region, as well as its long-term commitment to shareholders, employees, suppliers and the communities where it operates. Klabin's forest area in Paraná is one of the largest green areas in Southern Brazil. Studies carried out by a specialized consulting firm identified 1,206 species of flora, of which 15 are considered endangered species at the national level, and 783 species of fauna, of which 20 are in official endangered species lists. Klabin pioneered the mosaic plantation technique in forest management, which intersperses planted forests with preserved native forests to form ecological corridors that enable the coexistence and movement of native fauna in their natural habitat, besides contributing to the protection of soil, headwaters and biodiversity. The number of species identified and detailed in the Public Summary makes Klabin's areas one of the most important regions in Paraná in terms of biodiversity. The Public Summary also describes the diverse actions taken by Klabin at the communities where it operates in Paraná, where it actively participates in actions aimed at disseminating knowledge about the region, as well as educational and environmental awareness actions. The company has implemented a total 20 social and environmental projects, whose results are shown in the Public Summary, including the Klabin Caiubi Environmental Education Program, which disseminated content on ecological awareness to over 3,000 students in eight towns across the Campos Gerais region. Other highlights in the report include numbers from the Social Forests - Planning Sustainable Properties and the Legal Forests programs, which jointly donated 322 thousand seedlings until the end of 2021, and had already demarcated 4,700 hectares of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA) and Legal Reserves (LR) for environmental compliance of rural properties involved in the projects and in raising awareness about compliance with laws and diversification of income in those properties. #ResumoPublicoPR #ManejoFlorestal
