Jon Cole was recently hired as area manager for Green Diamond Management Company in Bingen, Wash., according to Neal Ewald, senior vice president and chief operating officer for the company. Late last year, Green Diamond announced it will manage 61,000 acres of working forest in the Columbia Gorge for Twin Creeks Timber, LLC, Seattle, which acquired the holdings from SDS Lumber. Green Diamond opened an office in Bingen at the beginning of 2022. Cole comes to Green Diamond with 27 years’ experience in the forest products industry, all of it working for SDS. Since 2008 he has been operations manager for SDS’ manufacturing facilities and for nine years prior to that he was a forester. “Jon’s integrated experience and knowledge of the land and customer base will serve us well in this region,” said Ewald. “We look forward to working with Jon and his team to manage these forests for long-term value.” Cole will manage all operational aspects of the Columbia Basin Management Area, working with a team of forestry professionals and contractors. In addition, the group will manage Green Diamond tracts in Northeastern Oregon. Cole holds a Bachelor of Science in forest management from Washington State University and an MBA from the University of Oregon. He is a volunteer firefighter for the Glenwood Fire Department and is a certified Hunter Education instructor.
