Portillo’s, the Chicago -based chain known for hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches, has filed a new application to start work on a north Fort Worth location as construction continues on an Arlington restaurant.

Portillo’s has officially applied to start work on a $790,000 location at 2491 North Tarrant Parkway , west of Interstate 35W.

That opening will follow the expected fall opening for Portillo’s at 4200 S. Cooper St. in Arlington . Graders are moving dirt on that site at Interstate 20 near The Parks mall.

The first Portillo’s in Texas opened in January to long lines at 5752 Grandscape Blvd. , The Colony .

Neither Tarrant County location has been officially announced by Portillo’s.

Portillo’s “Beef Bus” food truck made stops including Arlington in September, serving Italian beef sandwiches; hot dogs Chicago-style, with celery salt and sport peppers; Polish sausage; and “Maxwell Street” sausages.

Portillo’s began as a Villa Park, Illinois , hot dog stand in 1963 but has grown to a major restaurant chain.

The new restaurant in The Colony has a 180-seat dining room plus 80 seats on two patios.
