Treasury Americas, a division of Treasury Wine Estates, has received the 2023 Green Medal Leader Award from the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance. In 2021 we set an ambitious goal to lead the beverages industry in sustainability and have committed to a range of social and environmental targets, including being 100% powered by renewable energy across our operations by 2024, to achieve net zero scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030 and reach 50% women in senior leadership by F25. For us, industry leadership starts in the vineyard, and as one of the largest growers in the Napa Valley, US, we’re humbled to be recognised by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance as this year's California Green Medal Leader Award recipient. The award honours the winery that excels in the three “E’s” of sustainability – environmentally sound, socially equitable and economically viable practices. In addition to setting bold targets, Treasury Americas was recognised for its collaborative approach to achieving sustainable outcomes for the industry, an approach Will Drayton, Director of Technical Viticulture, Sustainability and Research says is critical for holistically integrating sustainable business practices. “Sustainability is fundamental to our business, whether it's reducing our footprint to stay within the bounds supported by our vineyards, watersheds, and atmosphere or preparing for future risks to our people, wines, and brands,” Will says. “Collaboration is key, and the wine industry is at its most resilient when we share our learnings and successes with neighbours and peers. We are proud of our partnerships with experts, the community, and universities such as the University of California at Davis, which are instrumental in developing learnings such as innovative carbon reduction and efficiency, land and water conservation, and biodiversity and soil health. This could be through our efforts to explore new technologies or building sustainability into everyday business decisions.” In addition to collaborating with industry, Will says some of the best solutions for sustainability challenges have been uncorked by tapping into the ideas of our experienced and talented employee base. “We recently developed a sustainability Shark Tank program for team members to collaborate in solving some of our most pressing obstacles by developing innovative solutions. The program leverages employees’ passion for sustainability and serves as a growth and networking opportunity. “This initiative exemplifies Treasury Americas’ dedication to a healthy, safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace culture where employees feel they can “Bring their Whole Selves,” embrace our TWE DNA and contribute ideas to solve key business challenges.” This year marks the 9th annual California Green Medal Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership Awards, which are presented by several leading California wine organizations -- California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, California Association of Winegrape Growers, Lodi Winegrape Commission, Napa Green, Napa Valley Vintners, Sonoma County Winegrowers, Vineyard Team and Wine Institute – and celebrate the California wine community’s cutting-edge leaders in sustainability and sustainable viticulture.
