Original Press Release:

São Paulo, Dec. 19 -- Nestlé issued the following news release:

- Created with the aim of solving complex factory problems and optimizing processes in operations, the CIT represents an important step for the company on its innovation journey.

Three years ago, Nestlé Brasil opened the Innovation and Technology Center (CIT), located in the Technological Innovation Park of São José dos Campos , an innovative ecosystem with more than 300 companies, startups and 5 universities installed on site. Currently, CIT brings together 60 projects and research on its innovation platform, connections with more than 580 startups and partnerships with more than 70 universities.

The CIT was created with the aim of accelerating research and development of innovations within the concept of Connected Factory and Industry 4.0, in addition to fostering an ecosystem with internal and external collaboration on this front, including the formation of new talents to work with an eye on digital transformation. The structure is close to the Caçapava factory, a Nestlé model plant, where technological solutions are developed and tested which, if approved, will be further developed in other company units throughout the Americas Zone .

With a team made up of engineers, in collaboration with Inova Talentos, and an academic body of masters, the partners involved in CIT projects are the University of São Paulo (USP), Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora ( UFJF), companies in the software, hardware, telephony and electronics sectors, as well as connections with startups offering industry-focused solutions in Security, Production, Quality and Sustainability.

During these three years, CIT promoted manufacturing technologies in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision Systems , Autonomous Robots, IoT Sensors, among others. Of these, 12 projects are already in the implementation phase and contributing to the optimization of Nestlé factory processes.

One of CIT's first initiatives was the control and operation of an AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) using the 5G network. In this exploration, an autonomous robot runs through the corridors of the Technology Park delivering chocolate bars. The installation of a Private SA 5G Network at the Caçapava factory was boosted after promising tests and experiments carried out at CIT.

“ Through innovation it is possible to develop products and services with less environmental impact, make production and logistical processes more efficient, in addition to creating more sustainable business models that generate results - for us and for our partners. That’s why celebrating each year of CIT’s existence is so important ,” says Gustavo Moura , Automation and Digital Transformation Manager at Nestlé Brasil. “ In a company the size of Nestlé, we can use our scale to accelerate innovation in partnership with different actors in this ecosystem and the CIT is the appropriate space to strengthen relationships with startups, have early access to new technological trends, replicate concepts applied in other segments industrial ”, he concludes.
