Leading rigid food packaging manufacturer and integrated recycler, Faerch, proudly announces the release of its 2023 Sustainability Report, highlighting the Group’s progress towards environmental, social and governance goals. Lars Gade Hansen, Group CEO states: "In 2023, Faerch continued to make significant strides forward. Our dedication to sustainability leadership in food packaging, alongside our focus on PET recycling, remained steadfast. An important highlight was the inauguration of our new recycling line at our mechanical recycling facility, Cirrec, in the Netherlands. This milestone marks an important step in creating circular loops for our products and driving circularity in the rigid food packaging industry". Read the report We are proud to present Faerch’s 2023 Sustainability Report, highlighting our progress in our environmental, social and governance commitments, reflected in our 4Ps framework: Planet, People, Principles of Governance and Prosperity. Read the 2023 report as an eBook Faerch has approved near- and long-term science-based emission reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initative (SBTi). Overall Net-Zero Target: Faerch commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2040 Near-term targets: Faerch commits to reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2022 base year* Long-term targets: Faerch commiuts to reduce absolute scope 1 and GHG emissions 90% by 2040 from a 2022 base year*. Faerch also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90% within the same timeframe.* *The target boundary includes biogenic land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks. Read more on page 20 in the Sustainability Report and see the official targets here Companies taking action - Science Based Targets During 2023, we significantly expanded our flagship recycling plant in the Netherlands, tripling the recycling capacity to manage a total volume of 60,000 tonnes of pot, tub, and tray feedstock from post-consumer waste. The investment marks a crucial step towards a circular economy and demonstrates Faerch’s dedication to environmental stewardship. The facility now has the capacity to recycle about three billion pieces of food packaging each year. To put this into perspective, these three billion recycled pieces can supply around 30% of the material for Faerch’s PET food packaging products, using only circular content derived from recycled food packaging (see p. 24). Faerch’s People Factor Platform aims to set uniform standards across the Group to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. With successful adaptation at 19 out of 32 sites, Faerch is moving closer to standardised practices across the Group (see p. 32). Faerch has reported a decrease in workplace accidents, with the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) dropping from 9.4 to 8.5. To further enhance safety performance across the Group and to promote a strong safety culture, five safety ambassadors have been appointed, underlining Faerch’s commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of its employees (see p. 39). With a comprehensive Whistleblower Scheme, offering employees a safe and confidential channel to report unethical behaviour, Faerch reinforces its values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. In 2023, six whistleblowing reports were submitted, three of which were substantiated, affirming the efficacy of the procedures implemented (see p. 40).Advancing circular progress
