The Kendall Packaging Pittsburg Plant came to the rescue of a nationally renowned tortilla chip maker so they could have their signature chips at the first home game of an NFL franchise on August 26, 2023. The Pittsburg facility received the first art files on Thursday, July 20. When the Illustrator files were requested on July 21, it was learned that the NFL had yet to approve the artwork. The approved artwork was received on July 25, with the specs sent to production. The specs were received from production on July 27 and sent to SGS the same day. Once the 1-up PDF was received from SGS on August 3, it was sent to the tortilla chip manufacturer for approval. SGS received approval to move forward on August 4, and a revised PDF with one update was received on August 8. Since approval from the client was provided, SGS moved to stepping. The first round of stepped PDFs was received on August 16 and was sent to the production department for approval. The stepping was adjusted to be 2X2, with new proofs received on the afternoon of August 18. Representatives of the tortilla chip manufacturer met on August 21 to review the proofs. That is when they learned the film for the product was needed by August 25 for the next day’s game. The revised stepped PDF was sent to production for approval on the morning of August 21. One more update was needed by SGS, and the final stepped PDF was approved on August 22. The plates were made on August 23 and were shipped the same day. The film was produced by the Pittsburg employees on August 24 and August 25, with the product film shipped to the tortilla chip manufacturer on the evening of August 25 to meet the deadline for the following day’s game. The tortilla manufacturer was so appreciative of the Pittsburg plant’s exceptional effort, that a pallet of chips was sent to the plant!
