Low alcohol drinks company Kåska conquers the beverage market with its groundbreaking boosted drinks. Their unique measuring cup placed on top of the T-top closure helps customers perfect their cocktails. It is made with Sulapac material that biodegrades without leaving permanent microplastics behind.

No and low alcohol market continues to grow

A new wave of the low-alcohol trend is rising. According to the trend report by Finnish government-run alcohol monopoly Alko, more and more consumers now focus on their well-being by choosing no or low alcohol beverages. Kåska is a Finnish startup fulfilling this demand. Their products include mixed drinks and spirits.

“We create products that make drinking low both easy and tasty,” says Eetu Topo, Co-founder of Kåska.

T-top bottle closure with a measuring cup is essential for the spirit concentrates

Kåska recently launched two groundbreaking spirit concentrates: the Smål Boosted Gin and the Smål Boosted Aperitivo. Ten times more flavor than average has been distilled into these concentrates, so one bottle contains only 2 dl of liquid. However, that is enough for as many as 20 drinks as so much less liquid is needed per drink than a regular gin or aperitif.

As the product is new to most people, Kåska wanted to include a measuring cup in the bottle closure. It demonstrates how much – or in this case, little – alcohol should be mixed into a drink.

“For a gin and tonic, for example, you need only 1 cl Smål Boosted Gin and 2 dl tonic. These concentrated drinks are new, so the 1 cl measuring cup in the bottle closure is essential,” Topo explains.

Sulapac shares Kåska’s vision of being sustainably smart

Sustainability is a crucial part of Kåska’s business. For example, the rationale behind the Smål spirit concentrates is to ship more with less energy. Sulapac was a natural choice as Kåska’s partner.

“Since we were going to add an extra part to our bottle closures, we wanted to make it as eco-friendly as possible. We didn’t want anything hanging from the bottle, so the measuring cup would have to be an integral part of the bottle,” Eetu Topo says.

Topo had heard of Sulapac some years ago and had followed the company with great interest as it is a Finnish startup doing something new and innovative, just like Kåska. When Topo and his business partner Fred Karlsson designed the bottles, Sulapac came up.

“Sulapac’s material is lightweight, bio-based – and locally produced just like ours. We also liked the idea of collaborating with a fellow Finnish startup.”

Topo is looking forward to more Finnish companies creating eco-friendly packaging solutions. As the volume is large, more sustainable alternatives have a significant environmental impact.

Plastic bottle closures are typically made of different materials that are glued together, which makes them difficult to recycle. That’s why many companies try to source more sustainable options.

There’s much work to be done. Kåska’s Smål bottle with its bio-based measuring cup is a step in the right direction.

New T-top bottle closure launches are coming up this autumn. Contact Sulapac’s experts if you want to discuss a collaboration!
