Original Press Release:

April 20 -- Bunge issued the following news release:

Initiative will initially impact around 250,000 hectares of properties in the Midwest and South regions of the country

Bunge announces the creation of a regenerative agriculture program designed for the company to be even closer to rural producers in the transition to low-carbon agriculture, offering technical support, tools, products and services, while supporting global efforts to minimize the growth of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

With zero cost for producers, the program promotes increased productivity and cost reduction, through the application of concepts and cultivation practices that improve soil fertility, increase atmospheric CO2 storage in the earth, promote biological diversity, they improve the retention and infiltration of water in the soil and improve the management of the consumption of energy and agricultural inputs. The program consists of 3 stages, customized according to the characteristics of each property:

* Diagnosis of the farm's adherence to regenerative agriculture practices;

* Customized action plan according to each diagnosis, indicating regenerative practices that can be implemented and/or improved, including provision of technical assistance for the adoption of transition actions towards sustainable agriculture;

* Commercialization of production - Bunge will connect the producer that adheres to the program with the market that demands products of sustainable origin.

“We know that many regenerative practices are already applied on the properties and our goal is to provide reliable and structured data so that the producer can assess the need to implement additional, corrective or reinforcing measures.”, says Pamela Moreira , responsible for Sustainability at Bunge in South America . “We will support you on this journey of constant improvement and learning”.

The program already has the adhesion of dozens of producers, totaling around 250 thousand hectares of land distributed in the states of Bahia , Maranhão , Mato Grosso , Paraná , Piauí and Tocantins .

To make the program's execution possible, Bunge also assembled a team of partners who will share tools and expertise with participants to support them in the transition to regenerative practices, with a focus on monitoring and measuring progress and monetizing sustainable agriculture. Orígeo, a joint venture between Bunge and UPL, will be on the farm, together with the producer, providing information and technological tools for digitizing crops to ensure the production of high-quality, low-carbon grains, using less inputs, fuel and resources.

“We are convinced that the program will further strengthen our connection with rural producers”, emphasizes Rossano de Angelis Jr , Vice President of Agribusiness at Bunge in South America . “With the expertise of our partner Orígeo, we have a unique support model for producers to ensure the productivity, profitability and sustainability of their businesses. Our teams work continuously to add value to our partners and we are committed to fostering best practices across our value chains.”

To further support the producer on this journey, Bunge has developed a fintech that will function as its digital arm for financial products and services. The technological tool was developed to facilitate and simplify access to rural credit in a safe, fluid and efficient way, with the analysis of socio-environmental criteria as a central point for granting financing.

Social impact on family farming

Still on its front of promoting regenerative agriculture, Bunge also developed an action aimed at small producers: the Semêa Project . Led by the Bunge Foundation and made possible through local partners, the project offers technical assistance for the adoption of regenerative practices in family farming, promotes productive social inclusion for vulnerable populations in the agribusiness chain and economic integration between agribusiness and small farmers through the provision of environmental services.
