Packaging specialist ALPLA Group celebrated the expansion of its plant site in Vlotho-Exter (Germany) together with guests from politics and business. In total, the Austrian family-owned company has invested around 30 million euros in the modernization of the site and the construction of an additional production and storage hall. The expansion is intended to increase competitiveness in the long term. In Vlotho-Exter, 185 employees produce, among other things, PET bottles and preforms for the nearby mineral water companies. These are produced using with PET recyclates from ALPLA's internal recycling plant in Bad Salzuflen, which is only a few kilometres away. In addition, ALPLA's reusable bottles for beverage and cosmetic applications are designed and produced in Vlotho-Exter. "The investments are a clear commitment to the location. Vlotho-Exter is an important competence and production center within the ALPLA Group, which we are consciously strengthening and expanding – also in line with our global sustainability strategy," says Georg Pescher, Managing Director of ALPLA in Germany. ALPLA CEO Philipp Lehner, emphasises: "Plastic packaging has a future – but only if we take the problems that undoubtedly exist today seriously. That's what we do. That is why we are actively committed to higher standards in the reduction, reuse and recycling of packaging." Numerous political guests Among the guests at the opening ceremony were members of the German Bundestag, the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as Herford District Administrator Jürgen Müller and the Mayor of Vlotho Rocco Wilken. "We are delighted that our efforts as an attractive employer, training company and economic player in this region, as well as a pioneer in the transformation to a circular economy, have been recognised by politicians," says Georg Pescher, adding: "We have also noted with great interest the decision of the state parliament to make North Rhine-Westphalia a pioneer for a circular economy in the field of plastics.
