US Polyethylene

US resin trading during the week to March 15 resulted on volumes well above the 2023 weekly average, but eased slightly compared to the previous week, according to The Plastics Exchange market update.

During the week, all PE grades lost about US$0.015/lb., marking the first decline in spot pricing since December.

Since the start of 2024, commodity PE pricing has increased US$0.05-US$0.07/lb., depending on the grade.

Producers aim to increase March contracts by US$0.03-US$0.05/lb., in addition to another US$0.03/lb. increase in April.

US Polypropylene

Trading volumes were solid for PP during the week ended on March 15, though prices were impacted by a recent decrease in monomer costs, The Plastics Exchange market update shows.

Homopolymer PP and copolymer PP prices fell by US$0.02/lb., following polymer-grade propylene’s decrease of US$0.03/lb. over the past two weeks.

March PP contracts are on track for an increase of US$0.04/lb. due to the overall increase in monomer costs during the past month.

US Ethylene

Ethylene trading started the week slow before trading on Tuesday at US$0.1875/lb. for March deals, according to The Plastics Exchange market update.

Prices increased slightly on Wednesday, hitting US$0.19/lb. for spot deliveries in Texas and US$0.1925/lb. in Louisiana.

Prices decreased slightly on Friday to US$0.1875/lb. for Q2 deals, before holding steady over the weekend.
