PARSIPPANY, N.J., U.S.A. – October 30, 2023 – Sun Chemical will showcase color materials, polymers, additives, and adhesives for the coatings industry during ABRAFATI 2023 (November 21-23, 2023) in São Paulo, Brazil.

“As the biggest coatings event in Latin America, ABRAFATI is a significant event for Sun Chemical, and we look forward to demonstrating how our color materials, polymers, additives, and adhesives enable excellent results within any coatings application,” said Elisangela Silva, Sales Director Latin America, Color Materials, Sun Chemical.

Color Materials

Visitors of booth B87 can explore digital tools like Pigment Finder, a database which includes Sun Chemical’s color materials portfolio and enables technical comparisons and the export of customized catalogs. Using the high-tech color digitalization of Sun Chemical’s PigmentViewer app, customers can review and compare coatings samples on their smart devices. Thanks to its digital visualization technology, the PigmentViewer app allows customers to experience and evaluate pigments on their smartphones just as they would when using a coated sample.

Inorganic and effect pigment innovations featured as new stylings in Sun Chemical’s Global Color Presentation will be highlighted. Sicopal® inorganic and Paliotan® hybrid pigments, for example, combine high chroma with outstanding weather fastness, while the Paliotan® VIU range has been developed for economically challenging applications such as lead chromate replacement. The newly launched Lumina® HD effect pigments series is based on fine fraction synthetic mica. These high-definition pigments have been developed to expand the color space for automotive stylings, aerospace, general industrial, and powder coatings.

Sun Chemical will highlight its functional black pigments, which provide solutions for solar heat management. While dark surfaces with standard carbon black pigments intensively absorb solar energy and convert it to heat, Sicopal®, Xfast®,and Spectrasense® functional black pigments can be used to reflect solar radiation and keep dark surfaces cool. Additionally, while standard carbon black pigments absorb near-infared light and LiDAR signals are often used for autonomous vehicle navigation, the functional black pigments deliver superior signal response and improve object detection in automotive coatings.

Polymers & Additives

Also on display will be Sun Chemical’s elaborate portfolio of polymers and additives for coatings and adhesives, which can be used in a wide range of industrial sectors including automotive, architecture, household, E&E, and packaging. At ABRAFATI, Sun Chemical will showcase the SAPICI Bluepur® and DIC WATERSOL® ranges of polyurethane dispersions, as well as DIC’s newly-developed HYDRANTM – a line of water-based polyurethane resins for artificial leather, covering solutions for the skin, adhesive, and coagulation layers. Furthermore, DIC’s BURNOCK® PE 2133, a new polyester which can improve flexibility and gloss in multiple coatings applications, will be highlighted.

Sun Chemical’s parent company, DIC Corporation, has recently launched its HYDRAN GP series of environment-friendly waterborne polyurethane resins. These resins have a higher solid content than conventional water-based polyurethane resins and contain no amines, enabling customers to shorten processing times and minimize odors while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and volatile organic compounds. This series is available globally and is suitable for a range of applications, including artificial leather, coatings, and adhesives.

Sun Chemical will also display a new cobalt-free and volatile organic compound-free drier, DICNATE MV-130A. DICNATE MV-130A allows efficient drying at low dosages, provides low dark yellowing, and has excellent compatibility with secondary driers, matting agents, and pigments.

From its recent acquisition of SAPICI, Sun Chemical will present a complete portfolio of extra-low free monomer polyisocyanates and prepolymers which have been developed for a broad range of applications, including coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, castings, and inks.

For water-based solutions, Sun Chemical will highlight its wide range of polyurethane and acrylic dispersions together with a complete range of water dispersible low free monomer polyisocyanates to formulate 2K systems. The product lines from the SAPICI acquisition provide solutions for wood, metal, plastic, leather, waterproofing membranes, and textiles. The newest development of SAPICI introduces bio-based polyisocyanates for a safer and more sustainable future.
