January 11, 2024 (press release) –

INEOS Aromatics’ site in Merak generates wastewater treatment sludge and equalization basin waste that needs to be disposed of. Until now, an authorized third party has been collecting and transporting the waste to their facility to be incinerated.

The team decided to explore other options, to determine if the waste had a value. It does. They found another third party who will instead turn the waste into raw materials for the cement industry.

Diverting the waste from incineration and instead turning it into a valuable resource is in line with the Indonesian government’s green industry agenda – not to mention INEOS’ own commitment to a more sustainable future.
