MM Kotkamills has completed the change negotiations concerning the company's sawmill, which began in September. After negotiations, it has been decided that the sawmill's business operations will be permanently discontinued. The decision has been influenced by the prolonged high price of raw material in relation to the low market price of sawn timber, the decreased demand for sawn timber due to the economic cycle, as well as significant investment needs to maintain the sawmill's operations and develop competitiveness. Since autumn 2022, the profitability of the sawmill's business has been loss-making, and there has been no change for the better during 2023. The sawmill has been at a standstill since July 2023. The closure of the sawmill affects 64 people. Every effort is made to support their employment. MM Kotkamills, together with the TE Office, will set up a working group with the aim of promoting the re-employment of sawmill personnel. Open positions at the integrated mill are also offered to sawmill personnel. The annual capacity of the sawmill has been 210,000 cubic metres of sawn timber. Further information: Päivi Suutari
