KREFELD, Germany , February 1, 2023 (press release) –

New order for Siempelkamp: The US door manufacturer Steves & Sons, Inc. has ordered two forming and pressing lines for the production of doorskins. Siempelkamp's comprehensive expertise in the field of wood-based panel systems, in particular for the production of thin MDF and HDF boards, was convincing here.

The new Texas customer also ordered two fiber dryers and an energy system from Siempelkamp subsidiary Büttner. Steves & Sons, a Texas family business, enters the production of the doorskins with this project. "Quality, first-class craftsmanship and style" form the decisive commitment of the Texas family business with 157 years of tradition in its markets.

The two press lines each consist of a fiber classifier, the spreading, forming line and the multi-deck press, which produces millions of doorskins annually. In the press line design, the focus was placed specifically on the wide variety of products, combined with the minimization of waste waste. Büttner contributes an energy plant including flue gas pre-cleaning, which is based on biomass combustion, as well as two fiber drying plants to the process-technical heat supply of the factory. The energy system not only supplies the drying plants with thermal energy, it also heats thermal oil for press heating and generates steam for wood refining. Start-up is scheduled for 2024.

Decisive for the cooperation is Siempelkamp's outstanding competence in the woodworking industry, which also includes systems for the production of thin MDF and HDF boards. This expertise is also in demand in the production of doorskins – thin, shaped hardboard that is glued to frames on both sides and used as door leaves. Siempelkamp has already proven its experience in the field of doorskin production through a high-performance system operated by a Turkish customer. The highest demands are placed on the surface qualities of the panels: From appearance, material density to thickness tolerances, many factors affect the appearance, the final quality and ultimately the production costs of the doorskins.

In addition, other factors contributed to the fact that two family businesses with almost identical longevity meet in this project. "Our experience in the North American market, our ability to adapt technical designs very specifically to local requirements, convinced Steves & Sons. We can also bring our unique expertise in the planning of complete plants into the balance. This ensures optimal process-related and operating cost-related design, e.g. in the form of low maintenance costs, low energy costs, minimized raw material consumption and a high degree of automation," say Dirk Koltze, President Siempelkamp LP/Büttner in Charlotte/USA, and Andreas Krott, Sales and Project Engineer at Siempelkamp Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH.
