LENZING, Austria & VIA ARESE, Italy , May 26, 2022 (press release) –

The TENCEL™ Limited Edition x COREVA™ project comes to life thanks to a new fabric, the result of two great sustainable innovations, born out of the research of Lenzing and Candiani Denim, coming together for a new international exclusive.

The two most innovative European textile companies have combined their two largest and newest sustainable technologies, TENCEL™ Limited Edition with hemp and COREVA™. The first is a novel cellulosic fiber where a substantial proportion of hemp pulp has been utilized, a tree-free complement to wood pulp traditionally used for TENCEL™ Lyocell. The second represents the first biodegradable stretch denim in history.

TENCEL™ Limited Edition hemp was developed to push the boundaries of innovation and further inspire sustainability across the textile industry value chain. Hemp is recognised as a highly sustainable fibre and an alternative to many classic fibres used in fabrics, but unfortunately, it is equally renowned for its roughness. By applying Lenzing’s environmentally responsible closed-loop manufacturing process, hemp in addition to wood pulp is now transformed into a soft fibre for the first time. The innovation of this collaboration can be summarised as follows: TENCEL™ Limited Edition with hemp + COREVA™ = sustainability + aesthetics and natural comfort.
This unique fabric in the world, refined, soft, performing, and natural, will only be available in Milan at the Coreva Design Store in Porta Ticinese 22, which will offer its fans an oversized women’s denim shirt in a limited edition of 50 pieces. The limited-edition fabric will also be available at Candiani Custom Microfactory in Piazza Mentana 3, for those who want personalised jeans.

“As consumers increasingly regard sustainability as important purchase consideration, the textile industry needs to act swiftly to offer solutions. We invented the TENCEL™ Limited Edition initiative in 2021 to explore the use of alternative raw materials, such as hemp or orange pulp, in textile production. We wanted to push the traditional boundaries of fibre production by leveraging natural resources. We value working with like-minded companies, such as Candiani Denim, who have similar environmental goals to ours and we are excited to see what customers think about products made with this new TENCEL™ Limited Edition hemp fiber”. Said Caroline Ledl, Head of Product Management Textiles at the Lenzing Group

“In a world where resources are dwindling and there is an unmanageable excess of clothing to be disposed of it is everyone’s duty to look to sustainable consumption and production, with maximum attention to renewable resources, biodegradable and compostable materials. The world of Denim must be at the forefront of this revolution, and we are excited to be able to collaborate with international companies such as Lenzing and to be able to share our innovation and our values with the rest of the fashion industry”. Said Alberto Candiani, President of Candiani Denim

Lenzing and Candiani Denim share a precise vision and leadership to improve sustainability in the textile and fashion sector. The common goal is to create widespread awareness, from the use of resources to the reduction of carbon emissions, with particular attention to the “end of life” of the garments that, if not biodegradable, remain in the environment for centuries.

Additionally Canopy, an award winning environmental nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the world’s forests, species and climate, supports future forward next generation solutions. Their CanopyStyle inititative brings together fashion’s most progressive players and industry to ensure the planet is looking good too.

“It’s exciting to see Lenzing expands its Next Gen product offering by making a Man Made Cellulosic textile with 20% hemp pulp, a plant that grows fast and fixes carbon back into degraded soils. Scaling innovations that use lower-footprint feedstocks like this will help take the sourcing pressure off vital forests and promote climate action. Next Gen Solutions are the future of Man Made Cellulosic fiber production”. Said Nicole Rycroft, Founder and Executive Director of the environmental not-for-profit; Canopy
