Every product needs a label, but every label should be fit for the product. Fruit labels, bands and stickers are likely to end up – and are indeed frequently found – in the organic waste, and should be designed in such a way as to not contaminate it. Taghleef’s pressure sensitive label substrates range is complemented by NATIVIA® NTSS, a biobased and biodegradable BOPLA film that provides the perfect industrially compostable alternative to conventional plastics.

Our goal in Taghleef is to dynamically upgrade our offerings and develop new products to satisfy our customer’s needs, achieve sustainability targets and adapt to changing regulatory requirements.

Speaking of which, the revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation proposed last year by the European Commission and currently under discussion, includes a list of packaging applications to be mandatory made of compostable materials, among which sticky labels for fruit and vegetables.

In response to the call for compostable packaging for specific strategic applications, we partnered up with several industry players and moved into action in developing a fully industrially compostable fruit band, presenting a product that could in the near future find its spot in a supermarket aisle.

The fun, colourful banana bunch band was obtained thanks to a dedicated teamwork, where each player gave their input in creating the finished product. Taghleef supplied NATIVIA® NTSS BOPLA facestock, which was coated with artimelt’s biobased adhesives and finally printed by Aleithe Haftetiketten with Zeller+Gmelin’s inks, also certified for compostability.

The fruit label project is an example of how Ti looks works to deliver not only films but solutions, fulfilling our customers’ requests today while preparing for those of tomorrow.
