Environmental specialists of Uralkali (the Company) released almost 50,000 juvenile sterlets into the Kama River (Perm Region, Russia). The fries were cultivated at a special fish farm. The release ceremony was attended by representatives of the Volga-Kama Territorial Administration of the Russian Federal Fishery Agency. Since 2015, as part of the Company’s biological resource restoration programme, Uralkali’s ecologists have released over 570,000 young sterlets and over 13,000 juvenile pikes into the Kama River. Yulia Mandziy, Uralkali Head of Environmental Department: In our ESG Strategy implementation, we apply the best environmental practices in our operations. Uralkali’s activities are fully compliant with applicable laws, and a large part of our work is to minimise the Company’s adverse environmental impacts. An artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources has a positive effect on the faunal balance in the Kama River and helps preserve populations of valuable fish species. Reference The sterlet is the only species of the sturgeon family that lives in the Perm Region of Russia. It is red-listed both on the regional and national levels, and its fishing is prohibited. Juvenile fish is transported to the release location in special containers, in which optimal conditions are maintained at all times. Before a fish release, the target body of water is analysed for temperature and feeding conditions. Uralkali (www.uralkali.com) is one of the world’s largest potash producers and exporters. The Company’s assets consist of 5 mines and 7 ore treatment plants in the towns of Berezniki and Solikamsk (Perm Region, Russia). Uralkali employs more than 13,300 people in the main production unit.
