The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) announced on March 31 that Brian Perkins has left the organization after a two-year tenure in which he played an important role in the organization’s transition from the Global Aquaculture Alliance to GSA. On April 4, GSA unveiled that its executive committee, which consists of members of the board of directors, met in early March and proposed a reorientation of GSA leadership to accelerate the growth of GSA’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and Best Seafood Practices (BSP) certification programs as well as the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification program. On March 1, GSA announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with RFM in which the two organizations will collaborate to promote choice in third-party assurances for seafood while aiming to reduce costs for certifications and audits. “We are grateful to Brian for his steadfast leadership and counsel during his two years with GSA. We wish him the best,” said GSA’s Wally Stevens. “I can assure the seafood community that GSA will continue to move forward as a voice for responsible seafood, helping build trust in our industry and our certification programs.” The GSA executive committee will begin an immediate search for a new CEO. In the interim, Wally Stevens, former CEO of GSA, will assume the role until a permanent CEO is found. About GSA
