New Epson SureColor SC-R5000

CMYUK has added Epson’s range of wide format resin ink printers to its equipment portfolio. The new SureColor SC-R series redefines resin ink-based printing, which up until now has been the domain of HP Latex print technology.

The SureColor SC-R 5000 (L) puts pay to the many issues that have dogged resin-based large-format printing over recent years. Crucially, it operates at lower temperatures, (below 100oC) eliminating common issues with heat sensitive medias, delivers panel-to-panel colour consistency, and class-leading linear feed accuracy. Also, because this printer uses permanent Epson piezo printheads, there is never any degradation in output quality.

Sustainable print solution

This is Epson’s first resin ink large format printer. Its superior odourless water-based resin ink means printed applications can be used in sensitive environments such as education and healthcare settings, hospitality, and heritage as well as outdoor applications requiring high durability.

Pairing the green credentials of this printer with CMYUK’s ranges of eco-materials that are proven substitutes for all popular applications, makes this a performance-reliable, highly sustainable print solution.

The SureColor SC-R5000 is a six-colour machine plus Optimizer. It handles media widths of up to 64-inches and has a maximum print resolution of 1200 x 2400dpi. Featuring a stable robust build that is designed for industrial production, it includes a 4.3-inch touch screen panel that makes operation and print monitoring very easy.

High image quality

High image quality is achieved by the utilisation of three Epson print technologies: halftoning, fully optimised lookup tables (LUT), and Micro Weave – that all contribute to reduce graininess and banding. Fully controlled heating and curing technology, combined with long-life PrecisionCore Micro TFP printheads, provide reliable colour consistency across the entire length of the print run. This avoids the need for reprints due to mismatched colours. The high scratch resistance of the resin ink set enables instant lamination and same-day delivery, thereby reducing turnaround times. This printer also benefits from end user replaceable printheads – minimising printer down time should an issue arise.

Increased productivity

The SC-R5000 includes a bulk ink solution of 1.5-litre ink pouches for increased printer production uptime, convenience, and lower print costs. However, the SC-R5000L model offers larger ink capacity with 2 x 1.5-litre ink pouches ensuring turbo-powered productivity that offers up to 20% savings in ink costs. In addition, an innovative ultrasonic detector reduces the risk of printhead failure, while nozzle verification technology (NVT) automatically compensates should any nozzle become blocked.

Sue Hayward, CMYUK Sales Director (Equipment), said, “This is an impressive range and market feedback from customers is that they regard this Epson resin printer as having significant advantages over HP Latex. It’s already garnering a great deal of interest, particularly in tandem with our eco materials.  Although this is a first for Epson, this manufacturer has been offering an industrial label press running this type of ink for a decade. Epson has engineered a fantastic product that does justice to this eco-friendly technology. The Epson UltraChrome RS inks have high scratch resistance, dry instantly, and can be laminated immediately. We’re also seeing excellent media flexibility, while the accurate media feed means consistent repeatability and diminished wastage.”

Phil McMullin, Epson Head of Sales Commercial, and Industrial Printing said, “Epson is excited to extend its partnership with CMYUK to now include the SureColor SC-R5000 printer range. CMYUK’s dramatic expansion of its sustainable material range, in combination with Epson’s new 100% water-based resin ink, offers its customers a truly eco-friendly way to produce outstanding displays & graphics.”
