Edward Timpson CBE, MP for Eddisbury, has visited Coveris’ Cheshire-based extrusion facility in Winsford to learn more about how the manufacturer is developing the recyclable and recycled polythene packaging films of the future.

Coveris is a leading sustainable packaging company that manufactures plastic and paper solutions for some of the world's most respected brands. With 29 sites located throughout Europe and the Middle East, its flagship polythene (PE) extrusion facility in Winsford has been at the forefront of innovative, responsible material development for over 25 years.

Recently investing over £6 million into next generation extrusion capabilities to support growing demand for sustainable plastics, over the last year the business has also launched its pioneering onsite Film Science Lab to support the accelerated R&D of innovative and recycled products.

As the UK’s largest extruder of recyclable PE and a fully accredited plastics reprocessor since 2007, Coveris’ ever-increasing recycling capability combined with 75,000 tonne PE extrusion capacity, delivers a unique stronghold on the sustainable films market.

Opening the doors to its state-of-the-art facility, the company was keen to show Mr Timpson the advances it has made in manufacturing, reprocessing, and employment creation to gain parliamentary support for its recycling operations and further infrastructure to meet Government waste recycling targets of 55 per cent by 2025 and 65 per cent by 2035.

Commenting on the visit, Eddisbury Member of Parliament, Edward Timpson CBE, said: “It was a pleasure to visit the facility and see the excellent work Coveris is doing to achieve sustainability and contribute to the local economy in the form of stable, well-supported careers.

“I must commend the team on their efforts to protect the environment through scientific innovation, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the processes undertaken by Coveris. I look forward to hearing more about Coveris’ advancements in this field in the future.”

Driven by its leading vision of NO WASTE, Coveris’ dual-purpose manufacturing and recycling facility is now set to ramp up operations over the next 12 months with an increased supply of waste for reprocessing through new and existing strategic partnerships.

Jon Pallas, Coveris’ Head of Recycling for Films also commented on the event and the business’ plans to further develop operations “We were very grateful for the opportunity to meet Mr Timpson and showcase the fantastic work we’ve been doing over the last 18 months to create a new landscape for recyclable and recycled plastic films.

“Coveris has proven its capability in both of these areas and is really pushing the boundaries of circular manufacturing in the UK. With increased investment, job creation, waste input and recycled product output, we now hope to gain further Government support in our journey towards our vision of NO WASTE.”
