Glengoyne aims to curb these temptations and distractions with its The Offline Edition whisky box, which doubles as a digital “black spot.” Based on the original Faraday cage invented by scientist Michael Faraday in 1836, the secondary packaging—which holds a 700ml bottle of Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter Three whisky—includes an aluminum inner cylinder that can block out electromagnetic signals for up to four smartphones. With The Offline Edition box, Glengoyne hopes to bring back the joy of connection and in-person communication while helping consumers temporarily disconnect from their digital lives.

Design studio repurposes shipping crates into its waste-free furniture exhibition

During the recently held 2022 Milan Design Week, design firm Studio Swine showcased 22 hardwood furniture pieces at the Forest Tales exhibition. In an effort to “leave no trace” of waste, the studio incorporated the packing crates used for transporting the furniture into its installation. Specifically, the crates were stacked in various mountain-like formations and used as pedestals to showcase the furniture. Ahead of the exhibition, Studio Swine modelled the construction of the crate structure using computer-aided design (CAD) to form the display. The crates were then assembled in Milan, where they were decorated with illustration-like tree images using water-based paint. "After the show, the crates are used to ship and store the furniture pieces around the world," said Alexander Groves, who founded Studio Swine together with Azusa Murakami. "The idea is that – in the same way you can visit the forest and 'leave no trace' – we could make a no-waste show for Milan and leave no trace afterwards."

Fruit drink brand launches bottles with fruit peel texture

U.K.-based squash brand Vimto recognizes the power of sensory stimulation, which is why it updated bottles for its fruit-flavored drinks to include a fruit peel texture. The aim is to provide consumers with a unique haptic experience when picking up a bottle of their favorite flavor, calling to mind the real fruit ingredients in the recipe. While the texture may be subtle, consumers, whether consciously or not, will have a deeper understanding of the beverage’s contents before taking their first sip.
