Senate Passes NWRA-supported Bipartisan Recycling and Composting Legislation NWRA Calls Upon the House to Swiftly Enact These Bills The National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) applauds the Senate for passing the Recycling and Composting Accountability Act and the Recycling Infrastructure and Accessibility Act. NWRA has been working for more than two years with the staff of Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee Chairman Tom Carper (D-DE) and Ranking Member Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) on these bills to improve rural recycling accessibility and recycling/composting data collection. “We thank Sens. Carper and Capito for their continued leadership on this issue and the Senate for passing this important legislation by unanimous consent,” said NWRA Interim President and CEO Jim Riley. “These bills will go a long way to improve access to recycling infrastructure in underserved communities as well as collect data on existing recycling and composting programs so that they may evaluate and improve future recycling policies. We urge the House to take up this legislation and pass it.” These two bipartisan bills will help address several of the challenges plaguing our nation’s recycling and composting systems—including reliable data collection and improving access to recycling programs. The bills now go to the House of Representatives for consideration where NWRA was instrumental in obtaining the sponsor of the House companion version of the Recycling Infrastructure and Accessibility Act. ### ABOUT NWRA
