Timber Finance Initiative to lead establishment of timber finance centre of excellence Built by Nature, a network and grant-making organisation with a mission to accelerate the timber building transformation in Europe, is pleased to announce a €90,000 Accelerator Fund grant to Timber Finance Initiative. The grant will support new research for sustainable finance investors, highlighting the climate impact and investment outlook of the forest and timber economy. The Zurich-based organisation will use its recently launched “Timber Finance Carbon Capture & Storage Index”, the first index of the modern forest and timber industry, to generate data and research to support its advocacy. By developing new financial instruments and publishing a whitepaper, TFI aims to inform and educate the sustainable finance sector about the climate-positive investment opportunities of the forest and timber industry. The ultimate goal is to establish timber as a thematic investment within sustainable finance, and drive demand among investors and developers towards the timber economy. By leveraging the Index, TFI and its partners will engage with institutional investors and produce a white paper on modern timber investments, including documentation of carbon benefits; a Timber Finance Index Report; Mass Timber Investment report; Mass Timber SDG and Climate Impact report. All papers are made available to the public and disseminated via partner network channels and industry presentations. About Built by Nature Built by Nature’s Accelerator Fund provides grants of between €50,000-€250,000 to teams and solutions that help decarbonise the built environment and scale up building with timber from sustainably managed forests. Since launching in October 2021, the Accelerator Fund has supported five projects totalling €738,586 in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and the UK. Built by Nature connects key actors across the built environment and forest communities to spark city-scale projects and amplify stories of ground-breaking timber projects and solutions. In close collaboration with its major partners and frontrunners, Built by Nature aims to change perceptions around timber construction and reshape the built environment system. Built by Nature is supported by founding partner Laudes Foundation, which launched in 2020 and is part of the Brenninkmeijer family enterprise. Laudes Foundation supports initiatives that inspire and challenge industry to harness its power for good and has a track record of leveraging philanthropic capital as a catalyst for industry wide change. About the Timber Finance Initiative Founded in 2021, the Timber Finance Initiative connects the financial and capital market with the modern forest and timber industry through the development of new financial products, methodologies for CO2 storage measurement, white papers, a knowledge Hub, training and consulting. Quote Amanda Sturgeon, CEO, Built by Nature says: “This is a much-needed project for increasing awareness, interest and competency within the investment community around both carbon and economic benefits of mass timber construction. For Built by Nature, the investment community is a priority audience – one serving as such an important lynchpin between developers and insurers and other audiences so vital to accelerating mass timber adoption.” Erik Reichmuth, Managing Director, Timber Finance Initiative: “Thanks to Built by Nature’s commitment, we have the opportunity to highlight the positive climate effect of mass timber investments, and how bio-based renewable building materials can be used to reduce CO2 emissions within the built environment.” Contact: Marisa Steiner, Head of Marketing and Communications Timber Finance Initiative, www.timberfinance.ch marisa.steiner@timberfinance.ch (41)76 569 57 64 Tom Poldre, Communications Lead (Interim) Built by Nature, Built By Nature (builtbn.org) t.poldre@builtbn.org; (44) 780 132 9366
