December 6, 2022 (press release) –

Aramark will be the first foodservice company in Germany to begin using fully automated kitchen robots in its corporate restaurants.

The robotic kitchen innovation from Berlin-based start-up Aitme prepares dishes such as pasta, bowls, and salads from fresh ingredients to order. The collaboration creates new opportunities for Aramark business and industry clients by offering greater flexibility in food offerings and service hours.

"Our guests and our staff are our top priority,” said Arnd Rune Thomas, President, Aramark Germany. “Aitme's robots can support our operations and create high-quality, fresh offerings for off-peak and night-time hours that would be difficult to implement without automation, especially in times of severe staff shortages."

During the pandemic, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 people left the hospitality sector in Germany—and many never came back, leaving employers struggling to fill positions.

In addition, many businesses are now working in a hybrid fashion. On days that building occupancy is low or during off-peak hours, the robotic kitchen provides freshly cooked, healthy meals to supplement on-site smart refrigerators, micro-markets, and other self-serve options.

This allows the kitchen team to focus on serving dishes and menus that require more culinary skill and creativity.

Aramark will begin introducing the Aitme robotic kitchens in spring 2023.

High Quality Precision in a Small Footprint

The self-contained Aitme system features two robotic arms and five cooking pots working in tandem. It can prepare and serve 60 dishes per hour.

The kitchen innovation requires only eight square meters (about 86 square feet) of space and operates with only one water and one electric connection.

Guests can pre-order dishes on the Aitme app, which will be integrated into existing Aramark client location apps where applicable.

After the order is placed, preparation begins. Guests watch through transparent glass panes as their meals are prepared and then served on a tray.
