Unicharm Corporation (CEO & President, Mr. Takahisa Takahara) is pleased to announce that the company has received approval from the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)*1 for its group-wide greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, achieving the SBT 1.5°C*2 target. Our group had previously received SBT 2.0°C*3 certification in May 2018. In light of the growing global momentum to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including CO₂, we have now applied to SBTi for certification of our 1.5°C target. *1 SBTi: An international science-based initiative that certifies corporate greenhouse gas emission reduction targets that are aligned with the level required by the Paris Agreement. *2 SBT 1.5°C: Science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in line with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. *3 SBT 2.0°C: Greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in line with limiting global temperature rise to 2°C above pre-industrial levels. Targets for which our group has received SBTi certification (Base year: 2021, Target year: 2031) Scope 1*4/Scope 2*5 Greenhouse gas emissions: 46.2% reduction Scope 3*6 Greenhouse gas emissions: 27.5% reduction *4 Refers to greenhouse gases, such as CO₂, that are directly emitted from fuel use and industrial processes at the Company. *5 Refers to greenhouse gases, such as CO₂, that are indirectly emitted from the use of electricity and heat purchased by the Company. *6 Refers to greenhouse gases, such as CO₂, that are indirectly emitted from all activities related to business activities (value chain). Contributing to the 17 SDGs Goals through “Greenhouse gas reduction by obtaining SBT 1.5°C target certification” Unicharm believes that this initiative of “Reducing greenhouse gas by obtaining SBT 1.5°C target certification” will contribute to the following 17 goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. 7.
