With a background in healthcare operations and law, he recalled, “Owning a cleaning company was never on the top of my list.” However, when exploring entrepreneurial opportunities he focused on franchising. After a conversation with a broker, he was intrigued in particular by a specialty business he never even knew existed. Schlais further observed, “There are a large number of service companies, but when learning about Renue I realized that they dominated a unique niche providing a needed service. Plus, it could be operated with only a small team, and I could quickly climb the learning curve by leaning on the strong training and ongoing operational and sales support provided by the franchisor.” Schlais was subsequently awarded the franchise for Maui and the Big Island. Completing training earlier this month, Renue is excited to help him grow what they expect to be a sizable business.
