HARRISBURG, Pa. — MITER Foundation, the charitable arm of MITER Brands, a residential window and door manufacturer that produces a portfolio of window and door brands for the new construction and replacement segments with an owner-operated, family-first approach, recently held two hurricane relief supplies distribution events to help those affected by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. In the week following Hurricane Helene, the MITER Foundation and PGT Custom Windows and Doors, part of the MITER Brands portfolio, hosted a distribution event open to the public to assist those affected by the storm in High Springs, Florida. The MITER Foundation and PGT partnered with Whitfield Window & Door, an authorized PGT dealer; the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB); the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA); and the Builders Association of North Central Florida (BA NCF) to host a six-hour event at Whitfield Window and Door, located at 17833 NW 244th St. in High Springs, Florida. Representatives from PGT distributed relief supplies, including over 750 cases of water, 200 flashlights, 4,600 batteries, extension cords, tarps, gloves, and cleaning supplies, among other items. The company also provided 50 chainsaws to ToolBank Disaster Services. This non-profit lends tools and equipment to community-based organizations at no cost for volunteers to use for disaster response and recovery efforts. “Our focus extends beyond protecting homes and families during storms; we’re also committed to being a trusted partner in the aftermath,” said Anthony Kassab, Executive Chair of the MITER Foundation. “Supporting the recovery of homes and communities while prioritizing the well-being of those affected is central to our mission. We’re truly thankful for the collaboration with all of our partners at this event, which allowed us to help hundreds of residents in the High Springs community who needed our help.” Two PGT semi-trucks transported supplies to the event from the brand’s facility in Venice, FL, more than 200 miles away. Also in support of Hurricane Helene’s recovery, the MI Windows and Doors team based in Hegins, Pennsylvania, donated 40 windows to be used in temporary housing, helping victims who had been residing in emergency tents. MI’s Gratz, Pennsylvania team is adding more windows to this trailer to be donated and shipping them to Builders FirstSource in Aberdeen, North Carolina. Additionally, relief supplies including bottled water, canned food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies were sent to help team members of RiteScreen, a MITER Brands supplier in Elizabethton, Tennessee, to be distributed. As reported by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm near Perry, Florida, on September 26, 2024, at 11:10 p.m., with winds reaching 140 mph, then progressed through the Southeast region. Just a few weeks later, following Hurricane Milton, the MITER Foundation hosted a drive-thru hurricane relief supplies distribution event to support team members at its Venice location who were affected by the Category 3 storm. Team members received various items, including tarps, extension cords, gloves, flashlights, batteries, bottled water, and cleaning supplies, among other things. Generators and chainsaws were also made available for team members to purchase at a significantly subsidized cost to aid their recovery efforts. “Our team members are the heart of our company,” said Matt DeSoto, CEO of MITER Brands. “In the wake of Hurricane Milton, we knew we had to act quickly to support those impacted by the storm. This event was our way of standing by our team in their time of need, ensuring they had the resources to begin to recover. We are proud to be part of a community that comes together in times of adversity, and we will continue to support our team members every step of the way.” Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key, Florida, at approximately 8:30 p.m., with winds at 120 mph.
