Early access registration is now open to ISSA members for the largest Capitol Hill fly-in event for the cleaning and facility-solutions industry, the 2025 ISSA Clean Advocacy Summit, March 31-April 1 in Washington, DC!
Why attend: The 2025 Clean Advocacy Summit is a can’t-miss, unique opportunity for you to help shape the future of the cleaning and facility-solutions industry. Participation is critical for industry leaders like you to engage with a new administration, as well as to build new and even stronger relationships with your members of Congress. Thank you to Tork, an Essity Brand for serving as the Presenting Sponsor, Imperial Dade as a Gold Sponsor, and Maid Brigade and You’ve Got Maids of Northern Virginia as Silver Sponsors of the 2025 summit.
What it means: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Safer Choice Program announced significant updates to its Safer Chemical Ingredients List (SCIL), a valuable resource for manufacturers of cleaning products with preferred environmental, health, and safety profiles. EPA added 27 new chemicals to the list, updated the listings of 23 existing chemicals to reflect the latest scientific evidence, and centralized the listing of all fragrance ingredients in a Fragrance Palette.
Why it matters: The SCIL is designed to help manufacturers find safer chemical alternatives to formulate cleaning products that meet the criteria of the EPA Safer Choice Program. By utilizing the resources provided by EPA, businesses can make informed decisions about the chemicals that they use in their products and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future. What it means: Both Maine and Minnesota recently enacted comprehensive bans on PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” in consumer products. Maine’s law prohibits the sale of any product containing intentionally added PFAS by 2030, with exemptions for “currently unavoidable uses.” Following Maine’s lead, Minnesota implemented a similar ban with a slightly later deadline of 2032.
Why it matters: While these bans are currently limited to two states, they represent a growing national movement to regulate PFAS. With over 30 states introducing policies on PFAS, we expect further action on this issue at the federal level in the future.
What ISSA is doing: Get involved in ISSA Advocacy here. Together, we can impact legislation and regulations related to PFAS and more, as well as ensure a healthier environment for everyone. For questions about this and other regulatory issues, please contact ISSA’s Meché Ragland. Learn more
