On November 19, 2024, as part of ISSA Show North America at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, more than 100 show attendees assembled in record time 500 personal-care bags that will be donated to women and girls in need throughout the Las Vegas area. This is the second year that ISSA, the worldwide cleaning and facility solutions industry association, has successfully hosted the now annual event. “The 500 personal-care bags represent the 500 million people worldwide experiencing period poverty or a lack of access to menstrual products, hygiene facilities, waste management, or a combination of these,” said ISSA Director of Government Affairs John Nothdurft. “In Nevada alone, one in six women and girls between the ages of 12 and 44 lives below the Federal Poverty Line.” ISSA partnered with Purse Power, a Las Vegas nonprofit dedicated to providing hygiene products to those in need, for the trade-show event and to distribute the personal-care bags to local women and girls through the following Las Vegas-area charities: Community In Schools of Nevada works to address students’ basic health, social, emotional and academic needs, empowering them to stay on track for a successful future SAFE House provides shelter, counseling, personal and legal advocacy, as well as community outreach to abused women and children Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth provides Southern Nevada’s homeless youth with the help, hope, and support needed to rebuild their lives The Shade Tree provides safe shelter to homeless and abused women and children in crisis Immigration Refugee Services | Catholic Charities provides refugees from all over the world with resources to become self-sufficient and lead independent lives upon arriving in the U.S. “We are beyond grateful to ISSA for selecting Purse Power as their service project,” said Purse Power Executive Director Shelly Elmer. “The impact of this event is immeasurable. By helping us fill 500 bags, we’ve not only provided necessary supplies to underserved menstruating people but have also shown the incredible strength of solidarity. Thanks to ISSA and all the attendees, we’re able to make sure that menstruation is not a barrier to dignity and health for so many people in our community. This partnership means the world to us and to those who will directly benefit.” The following sponsors donated personal-care products for the 2024 ISSA End Period Poverty Service Project: “Thank you to our generous End Period Poverty Service Project sponsors and to all of the participants for making this year’s event as impactful as it was and a highlight of our trade show,” said ISSA Senior Government Affairs Manager Stacy Seiden.
