GP celebrates completion of its US$550M investment initiatives at Green Bay Broadway Facility; expansion includes new TAD paper machine and three converting lines that will produce Brawny paper towels, other private-label brands for the retail market

Green Bay, Wis. - Georgia-Pacific today celebrates the completion of its investment initiatives at the Green Bay Broadway Facility. The nearly $550 million expansion includes a new through-air-dried (TAD) paper machine and three converting lines that will produce Brawny® paper towels and other premium private label brands for the retail market.

Georgia-Pacific leadership and employees are pictured with local officials at the Green Bay Broadway Wisconsin facility which produces Brawny® paper towels.

Construction for the initiative began in July 2022, and not only helps support Georgia-Pacific’s own retail towel brands, and the growth of both current and potential premium private label brands, but also reduces manual “touches.” This is a critical part of the new paper machine’s production process, the associated converting equipment, and the overall infrastructure. With the entire production process nearly 85% automated, the technology-focused jobs as part of this project will manage high levels of automation across the entire product system.

“Today is an exciting day for Georgia-Pacific," said John Nundahl, vice president of manufacturing, Georgia-Pacific. "After more than two years, it is wonderful to see the results of this new investment in the form of more than 100 full-time jobs, enhanced levels of technology and automation, and production capabilities that will produce Brawny® paper towels and other premium private-label brands."

Georgia-Pacific president and CEO Christian Fischer, pictured with Dean Wesolowski, the expansion’s operations manager, speaks at the Green Bay, Wisconsin facility grand opening. The Broadway facility proudly produces Brawny® paper towels.

The Broadway manufacturing facility now employs more than 1,000 full-time employees who support the production of paper products for Georgia-Pacific’s away-from-home and retail businesses.

Since 2006, approximately $1.2 billion has been invested in Georgia-Pacific’s Green Bay facilities, including the Broadway mill. Many of the investments were focused on high-tech equipment and technology, including the latest in automation, laser-guided vehicles, artificial intelligence, and robust data analytics that help operations run safely and efficiently. Georgia-Pacific has five facilities in Wisconsin, which provide close to 2,000 direct jobs in the state.
