The following is from Steve Ardagh, CEO and Founder of Eagle Protect. It has been republished with permission. Anyone remotely involved with the food sector will be very well aware of the Boars Head tragedy, the devastating loss of life, illness, and likely irreparable brand damage. “𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕. 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗰𝘆𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀, 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗲, 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘂𝘀, 𝗣𝘀𝗲𝘂𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗲𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗲.”
My company has been battling for nearly 20 years to raise the standard of PPE and Disposable Gloves in the food sector across New Zealand and the US. While it is not likely gloves were directly involved in the Boars Head situation, we know from independent research and the peer-reviewed Journal of Food Protection article that disposable gloves entering the US and NZ are very possibly contaminated with Listeria, Salmonella, and many other potentially dangerous pathogens.
From the JoFP paper:
We are unashamedly using this current focus on food safety and sanitation to highlight the hidden danger of poor quality and poorly made disposable gloves.
