Treasury Wine Estates named finalist for Fast Company's Best Workplaces for Innovators in Sustainability category; company cites climate change vulnerability in wine industry as driver for innovation

September 11, 2024 (press release) –

We’re proud to announce that we’ve been recognised as a finalist on Fast Company's Best Workplaces for Innovators list in the Sustainability category based on our initiatives being pioneered by our teams in the Americas.

The award honours organisations and businesses that demonstrate an inspiring commitment to encourage and develop innovation at all levels, including those that excel in specific areas like sustainability.

We acknowledge that viticulture and winemaking are especially vulnerable to the effects of climate change, which is why we embed sustainability into all aspects of our organisation and drive to develop new solutions through mentorship, community, and collaboration.

“At Treasury Wine Estates, our people are the heartbeat of our company, and we’re proud to create a culture where team members feel they can be courageous with their ideas. Our commitment to the environment requires dynamic thinking, and we are thrilled to be recognised by Fast Company for these efforts,” said Ben Dollard, President of Treasury Americas, a division of Treasury Wine Estates.

“Diverse perspectives have made us into the successful, innovative company we are today, and we’ll continue to foster an inclusive environment where new ways of thinking and sustainability can thrive.”

Our accomplishments that led to this recognition are:

  • Establishing a program where teams of cross-functional employees propose solutions to key sustainability challenges facing the company and bring their ideas to fruition through a pitching process to the Leadership Team executives.
  • Funding an employee’s idea to create a fluidised bed reactor from a prototype, increasing energy efficiency and energy savings while preserving wine without the need for any additives and increasing yields.
  • Partnering with local universities such as UC Davis to sponsor PhD and Master’s students, creating a funnel for sourcing talent and innovation from one of the world’s leading wine programs.
  • Creating the TWEforMe Community, representing eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to drive connection between employees and leadership and establish a greater sense of belonging.

“We encourage our employees to show up and bring their whole selves to work each and every day, as part of our TWE DNA,” said Elise Spangenberg, Senior Vice President of People & Culture at Treasury Americas.

“By empowering our team members to contribute their unique talents and ideas, we continue to raise the bar and lead the industry in sustainability.”
