ReNew ELP awards px Group O&M Contract at World’s First Commercial Scale Plastic Recycling Plant ReNew ELP, a subsidiary of Mura Technology Limited (Mura) have awarded px Group – the owner of Saltend Chemicals Park and operator of several critical energy infrastructure sites in the UK – a 10-year Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract at the world’s first commercial scale plastic recycling plant. Based at the Wilton International site, in Teesside, North East England, is on track to be operational in 2023 and will use Mura’s proprietary HydroPRSTM technology platform to chemically recycle end-of-life plastic. The HydroPRSTM process uses supercritical water to break down post-consumer plastics into a range of valuable liquid hydrocarbon products including naphtha, gas oils, and heavy wax residue, which are all essential building blocks in the manufacturing of new plastics. There is no limit to the number of times plastic can be recycled using this process, additionally, it is capable of processing all plastic waste types, including difficult-to-recycle materials such as composite films. Initially, ReNew ELP will work in unity with px Group to process over 20,000 tonnes of waste plastic each year, during phase 1 of operations. The site has further scope for an additional three lines, which would take the processing capacity to over 80,000 tonnes per year. This contract signifies the beginning of px Group and ReNew ELP’s working relationship, and will create 30 local, highly skilled jobs. Headquartered in Teesside, px Group already operates and maintains the Teesside Gas Processing Plant, St. Fergus Gas Terminal in Scotland, and Saltend Chemicals Park in Hull. The O&M contract is scheduled to begin before the end of the year, and as soon as the construction phase of the project is completed at the Wilton International site.
