Committed to the sustainability, development and safety of the communities where it operates, Klabin constantly invests in fire prevention. To act on this front, the Company relies on a structure equipped with an advanced system for monitoring its forests, teams trained to quickly contain occurrences, and the dissemination of information to raise awareness among the population about the risks and show that prevention is the best way forward. The monitoring work relies on a control room and 18 cameras, which record images in real time, 24 hours a day, with a range of up to 40 kilometers. The cameras are installed on towers measuring 60 and 65 meters in height, which allows the operation to have a wide range. The system works in a practical and efficient manner, with the rapid identification of possible fire outbreaks. As soon as the occurrence is identified, a team is promptly dispatched to the location. "With the established procedure, we help the community to fight forest fires not only on the Company's properties, but also in nearby areas, either with the support of our own teams or with support from the Fire Department and Civil Defense", highlighted Carlos Cesar Santos, coordinator of Forestry Asset Protection at Klabin. Currently, around 670 employees, trained to work in fire prevention and control in the region, work directly on Klabin's forest monitoring system. The structure includes an aircraft with the capacity to carry 450 liters of water, five trucks similar to those used by the Fire Department and 16 water tanker trucks, always ready for emergency calls. In line with community awareness actions on fire prevention, Klabin is a signatory to the campaign “United in preventing forest fires - We are guardians of the forest”, recently launched by the Paraná Association of Forest-Based Companies (APRE), in order to strengthen the importance of collective actions for forest conservation.
