Unifor is proud to welcome 245 part-time workers at the Nuance Group (Canada) Inc. at Pearson International Airport in Toronto. “We are thrilled to have Nuance members join Unifor,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “We look forward to bargaining your first contract and improving working conditions for airport workers, including pushing back against contract flipping, and making sure you’re treated with the respect you deserve.” These members work in the duty-free stores at Pearson airport, as well as other specialty retail stores that sell cosmetics and perfumes. This diverse workforce includes beauty advisors, members in sales and delivery, specialty retail, and warehousing, among others. The workers wanted to join Unifor to improve their wages and benefits, and to fight contract flipping. Unifor’s organizing campaign began in January of this year. Members voted over 96% to join the union in late February. “We are delighted that we are now officially part of Unifor!” said Nuance Group member Sandeep Varma. “This unionization marks a significant step towards ensuring fair treatment and advocating for our rights in the workplace. Together with Unifor, we look forward to building a stronger, more supportive work environment for everyone.” © 2024 Unifor
