Maintenance at the unit will take place from January 8 to February 4 and should involve more than two thousand professionals, many of them from other regions of the country. Suzano, the world's largest pulp producer and a global leader in the production of bioproducts developed from planted eucalyptus trees, will hold a General Shutdown at its Três Lagoas Unit from January 8 to February 4. Since the operation involves two production lines, which together have a production capacity of 3.25 million tons of pulp per year, maintenance will be carried out in two stages. The first, at plant 2, will be from January 8 to 17. Then, on January 18, maintenance will begin at plant 1, an action that will last until February 4. “The goal of plant maintenance is to maintain productivity, operational excellence, good environmental performance of the plant and the safety of the industry’s team of employees. One of the distinguishing features of the action at the Suzano Unit in Três Lagoas has been to perform maintenance on one production line while the other line remains in full operation. This is a very thorough action, in which all processes are reviewed and equipment inspected. In addition to the routine inspection of all processes at both plants, one of the main activities during the General Shutdown is the inspection of the unit’s two Recovery Boilers, in accordance with industry regulations,” highlights Eduardo Ferraz, Suzano’s Industrial Operations Director in Três Lagoas. Working together The General Shutdown involves approximately 110 companies specialized in this type of operation and more than 2,000 professionals, many of them from regions such as São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. As there are two factories and it will last about a month, the expectation is that the operation will boost several sectors of the economy of Três Lagoas, mainly hotels, bars and restaurants, laundries and pharmacies. “At Suzano, we have a guiding principle that says ‘it’s only good for us if it’s good for the world’, and the general shutdowns are in line with this, since they directly contribute to boosting the local economy. It is worth noting that, in line with our commitment to valuing local businesses, many service providers from the region are also temporarily hired to assist in the General Shutdown”, adds Ferraz. Local suppliers include companies specialized in industrial cleaning, cargo handling and industrial engineering. Since 2023, the cycle between one General Shutdown and another has increased from 15 to 18 months at the Três Lagoas Unit. This change is due to the excellent results obtained in previous maintenance operations, which allowed for the extension of the “campaign” period, intended for the organization of the next general maintenance.
