The conversion of paper machine 9 secures the Gratkorn location of the paper group Sappi in the long term and fills the order books of the Austrian-based industrial plant manufacturer GAW technologies. GAW technologies was recently commissioned by Sappi Austria Produktions-GmbH & Co KG to deliver a chemical preparation plant for the PM9. So far, multi-coated fine papers for graphic applications have been produced on the paper machine, in the future label papers for various applications such as bottles and food packaging will be produced. For these special papers, very demanding raw materials and chemicals are processed in compliance with the highest safety standards. GAW supplies both the technology and the assembly and commissioning of the highly complex system. The reliable partnership between the two leading Styrian (federal state of Austria) companies roots more than seven decades ago. GAW was not only able to process its very first order for the paper mill in Gratkorn in the year it was founded (1951), but also numerous subsequent projects followed. Including shortly before the turn of the millennium, when Sappi completely revolutionized the factory with the construction of one of the world's largest and most modern production plants for coated fine paper. Today, the Gratkorn site is one of the largest and most modern paper mills in Europe. With the implementation of the new project, Sappi will continue to significantly expand its market position. The schedule is quite ambitious: the assembly of the first subsections/construction packages is planned for spring next year, and commissioning is scheduled for autumn 2023. November 2022
